Nice Mountain Escape. We stayed here over the weekend as we had a living social deal. For our family, I found it to be more than adequate. We stayed in a one bedroom suite. There was a Murphy bed as well. While the room is dated and could use some minor touches, it was clean, the kitchenette had all the necessities we needed, water was hot in the shower, the fireplace was wonderful and our view of the mountains was great. We loved the water slides, pool and indoor playground. I was able to hike a beautiful trail as the hotel is away from downtown. Overall our family would stay again!

Great Place to Experience the Rockies…This is a great place for families with young kids to experience the rockies. It is close to the centre of Banff but still away from the “busy” downtown area. Great relaxing vibe with awesome surroundings. Very fun waterslides and kids playzone area! Great value for location etc.

A Place to get away in our hectic life! We had a relaxing, quiet time at Douglas Fir June 2 – 4, 2015. Just the two of us to unwind and walk around & see some of the sites @ Banff. We stayed in the main lodge this time and had a lovely room (#321) overlooking the mountains and trees. Lovely suite and great view. We come here at least twice a year and have been for the past 30 years. Thanks for a lovely few days & see you again soon.

Gorgeous Chalets This is the second time we stayed here, once as a family and once as a couple. Both times were great. There is beautiful scenery, as well as wildlife roaming through the resort. Very much a nice cabin feel, wood fire place, everything you need to stay for night, week, or month. I don’t think you will be disappointed with your stay.

I was there for a leg of honeymoon. Absolutely loved our stay. Our own fireplace was a key with kitchenette as well. Staff were super helpful. Was really nice to see families to other honeymooners. Never had a single issue! Definitely worth every penny. We had an issue with a blizzard and possibly having a cancelled flight due to it and the resort offered a room to us for no extra due to the complication of airline travels and if the flight would have been cancelled, we would have jumped at another night. Lots of activities around for kids and near by the village for other things to do. Very clean in the facilities and smelt great. Can’t beat the fresh fireplace kind of smell.

Love love this hotel!!! Perfect for families! We stayed here in April and we love it here. It was not our first time! The rooms have a very cozy laid back charm. There is a wood burning fireplace and you can smell this throughout the hotel. I love that smell though like your camping it’s wonderful. There is a huge indoor play park for the kids which my kids (5 & 9 ) love to play in! Also included free for guests is the use of their waterslides. They are amazing so much stuff to keep the kids occupied even if the weather isn’t agreeing with your plans. We stayed in a two bedroom pet friendly condo and it was sooo spacious. They all have fully stocked kitchenettes so if you choose to make your own meals everything you could want is there. The views are wonderful and I believe most/ all rooms come with a patio.
The hotel is not on the main route is is a bit away from Banff but there is free shuttle service and getting downtown is never a problem. It is also quieter at night time because of this an added bonus in my books. I highly recommend to all my friends!

Keep coming back to this place. It has a pool area like other hotels with a sauna and hot tub. It also has the totally separate waterslide area that has a steam room, which is more like a rec facility than a standard hotel with noisy kids having fun. I have stayed here at least 20 times and wondered if some of the recent reviews reflected a downgrade in the facility. However my most recent stay in May 2014 was as good as the past stays. I have always stayed in the chalets so I am not very familiar with the rooms in the lodge.
Last stay, four adults stayed in a chalet and everyone had their own bed, one in the bedroom, one on the sofa in living room and two in the beds in the loft. Very comfortable even if you do not know the other people that well. Nice fireplace with firewood, kitchen facilities, and at as reasonable a price as any other hotel in Banff. It is not near the main part of town but is near the wildlife and you should always see elk or other animals near the hotel.
My opinion is that this place should be one of the higher rated, also considering that others that might be “nicer” will be much more expensive.

Best family hotel in Banff! This was our second stay at the Douglas Fir. I cannot say enough how perfect it is for a young family. It rained a significant portion of our stay but between the play area and the pool kids were happy. The rooms could be modernized but my kids thought they were “cool”. We will stay here again!

Perfect place to stay with kids. Yes the rooms are outdated but it was clean. The kitchen had all the tools you need to make simple meal, I like that we had a fool fridge and stove I have two teenagers (4 kids) they eat a lot! We had a room for 6 but if you count the sofa bead there is room for 8 so a lot of space. We loved the fire place the hotel provides the wood. There is also two watersides, two hot tubs, a pool, game room and a grocery store right in the resort! Well go back the kids had a grate time and for us it was what mater the most.
