Alberta Tourism Levy Increase

The Government of Alberta has announced that the Alberta Tourism Levy will increase from 4% to 6% effective April 1, 2026. This levy is a provincial tax that all accommodation providers across Alberta are required by law to collect and remit to the Government of Alberta.

Under the updated legislation, the applicable tourism levy depends on when a reservation is paid in full. Reservations that are not paid in full before April 1, 2026 will be subject to the new 6% levy. Because this change applies province-wide, the tax amount for some reservations may be slightly different from what was estimated at the time of booking.

For reservations booked directly with the Douglas Fir Resort & Chalets
We will send an updated confirmation reflecting the applicable tourism levy so that your reservation details remain accurate.

For reservations booked through third-party websites (such as Booking.com, Expedia, or other online travel agencies).
Those reservations and confirmations are managed directly by the booking platform. As a result, we’re unable to modify those confirmations. If you have questions about how the updated provincial tax may appear on your reservation, please contact your booking provider directly as we unfortunately we will not be able to assist. If you have paid via Expedia and with a booking.com virtual card, you will not be affected by the change and the 4% levy will remain.

As this tax change was introduced by the Government of Alberta and applies to all accommodation providers in the province, any questions about the Tourism Levy itself can be directed to the Government of Alberta or reviewed on their official website. Tourism levy | Alberta.ca
